Morality and What It Means To Me...

A saying that comes to mind as I thought about this posting is, "Is it important to do things right or is it important to do the right things".

To me, morality is your own code of conduct (how and why we do things); it is how you live your life. It is the way that you treat others. It is the small and large decisions that you make that then affect the lives of everyone around you, as well as your own. Morality is very powerful, and you can not deny its existence. We make many of our decisions based on our own personal code of conduct. Every decision that we make has consequences. These consequences can be either positive or negative. They can have either a large or small impact on our future, or the futures of others. How we make decisions is often dependent upon our morals and experience gained from previous moral questions we faced.

I think that everyone’s morals are different.  They could have similar foundation and context but they are unique to each of us. Our morals evolve and develop within us, as we encounter new experiences and situations along our life journey. Our morals also, evolve and develop as our understanding of culture, community, and religion expands.  These evolutions are like revisions to a paper. After each revision the clarity, depth, and definition becomes enhanced and improved.

I personally do not think enough about the consequences for all of my decisions but I do understand that there are consequences for those decisions. I understand the need to reflect and think through my moral context and my world view. As I think about some of my life experiences, I can understand how these experiences have changed me into whom I am today. This change is developing and evolving my moral understanding, context, and knowledge foundation which will impact my future moral decisions.

The slides about morality, challenged me to think about things in a larger context and to think about the impact of possible consequences of my decisions. All together I think I am learning a lot, it is making me reflect on my past experience and decisions. I am also enjoying the online structure of this class.

Introduction

Hello, my name is Adam Jensen. I was born in the steel city Pittsburgh, PA. Thats right I bleed BLACK and GOLD! I have been living in Wisconsin for the past 7 years. Although, just over the last summer I moved to Wausau from DePere WI. In June 2008, I graduated from DePere Highschool. Some of my interest are video games (mostly World of Warcraft), watching football (GO STEELERS!), and I like to go snowboarding at Granite Peak. Otherwise I am just your average college student.
